On Thursday, August 8th, the Humane Society of Missouri hosted a commemorative event celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the largest dog fight rescue in US History, the Missouri 500. The rescue occurred July 8th, 2009. For over 400 fight dogs it was their last day on a chain. Almost 150 pups were born in the shelter, the Pit Palace, in St. Louis over the next 7 months. Half of those dogs made it to foster and adoptive families. There was a great crowd at HSMO on August 8th. I was signing my book, Last Day on a Chain, Stories of Compassion, Salvation and Misperceptions.
Many thanks to Kathy Warnick, Jeane Jae, Shana Cook, Annie McLaughlin and the entire staff at HSMO for hosting this event. Lots of friendships were reacquainted and stories rehashed regarding that rescue. I wish we could do it again.
